Apparently, the cast of High School Musical isn’t all in this together. Over 14 years after the Disney Channel Original Movie first aired, the stars of High School Musical got together for a virtual to catch-up. High School Musical director Kenny Ortega also joined in on the fun and reunited with the cast. Though most of the core cast reunited in the virtual get together, Zac Efron was noticeably absent. There’s no word on why Zac ended up missing the reunion, or if he was even invited at all. Another cast member who was absent from the call was Coach Bolton. Bart Johnson, who played the role, called out the cast for not getting an invite.

THEN AND NOW: The cast of the ‘High School Musical’ movies 14 years later

Days after much of the cast of the beloved High School Musical franchise, along with director Kenny Ortega , got together for a Zoom chat that had the whole world talking , everyone–and we do mean everyone–is proving that they’re still all in this together as they band together for a special performance during ABC’s The Disney Family Singalong , airing Thursday, April And naturally, they’ll be singing the franchise’s anthem “We’re All in This Together” from the safety of their own homes.

And while Zac Efron was added to the roster too late to join the performance, Ortega told Deadline that the actor will share a special message during the program instead.

“I wanted to find something I can do to participate and it was so great to be given the call Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas “Everyone we reached out to was quick — and you’ll see it in their spirit and the way they come together from their homes.”.

They were not, in fact, all in this together. It was to be a magical event for everyone waiting at home, ready for the cast to get together and totally serve. Not only would this have made for a Zac and Vanessa reunion, but an awesome version of the song as the cast performed the tune from home. But instead of making TV history by bringing joy to everyone at home with a winning performance by Zac, fans were greeted with a grainy, bizarre introduction from the actor “from the middle of nowhere,” and then a total lack of Zac singing.

That’s right. Zac made an appearance for a moment to introduce his “oldest friends” while streaming with some apparently completely awful Wi-Fi, and then totally dipped on the actual song. Everyone else was there, but the lack of Zac made for a much less exciting experience overall, a sentiment echoed online by disappointed High School Musical fans.

Needless to say, now people are Mad Online. It’s safe to say that no one is happy about the way this performance went down, especially after director Kenny Ortega who helmed the original movie had indicated in an interview prior to the show that Zac would definitely be involved.

Zac Efron introduced the High School Musical cast instead of singing with Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Zac was noticeably MIA, so it’s totally understandable how fans freaked out at the possibility of him being in the singalong of “We’re All In This Together”.
